Lo & Obi

Quote of the day
"Whatever you do : don't be another brick in the wall"

You're not born with slick shoes; someone has to help you pick them out and show you how to tie the laces".

-----------------------------------

Great. I received it this morning. I was eager to have it. I'm talking about the lovely book from Lauren Dukoff .
It's entitled FAMILY. Why ? Because it's about her family. The family of the heart. But she's not using words. She's talking with pictures.
Born from a dad who was also a photographer, she got interested in this type of art and studied at the Brooks Photography Institute in Santa Barbara. At that time, she had already met in high school her first source of inspiration : Devendra Obi Banhart.
Since she met Banhart, Lauren considers the artist as her older brother, the one who helped open a new world of music and creativity for her and helped shape her artistic tastes
(Elliott Smith, Jack Kerouac, Nick Drake) .
I really like what she means when she writes that "Everyone, if they're lucky, has the opportunity to learn from someone just a little older than them. You're not born with slick shoes; someone has to help you pick them out and show you how to tie the laces".
Thanks to Devendra Banhart, Lauren Dukoff then met a bunch of artists whose portraits and life stills are printed on the pages of this beautiful book.
Here above you will find some of them and if you want to discover more pics and info, have a look at Lauren's website and the book's website too.

I suggest you to have a look at the Autumn de Wilde website. De Wilde is considered by Dukoff as her mentor and apart from the beautiful pics she took of Elliott Smith, Miranda July and other artists or simply anonymous persons, you will find some funny drawings there.
